Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a safe and effective treatment for pre-skin cancers and superficial skin cancers. It is well tolerated, effective and one of our patients' favorite treatment options for actinic keratoses and superficial skin cancers. PDT has also been shown to improve skin texture, pigment, broken blood vessels and acne.
Dr. Heather Rogers, Dr. Irwin, and their staff here at Madison Skin & Laser Center in Seattle are proud to be one of the only dermatology offices in the area to offer red and blue light for treatment of skin cancers and pre-skin cancers.
What does the treatment involve?
PDT is a 2-step process.
STEP 1 is the application of the medication. Depending upon the condition to be treated, the medication may be applied for 1 or 3 hours. During the incubation period the area being treated needs to avoid sunlight or excessive indoor light exposure.
STEP 2 is the light treatment for less than 15 minutes.
