We have been providing medical and cosmetic dermatology care for over ten years at our Seattle office on First Hill.
We can bill insurance for the diagnosis of benign growths, but insurance will not reimburse for the removal of benign growths.
Benign Growths
Benign growths can include skin tags, seborrheic keratosis (barnacles), hemangiomas (red moles), and milia. A skin evaluation and diagnosis is required prior to treatment. Insurance companies and Medicare will no longer pay for the removal of benign growths. This includes even if they are rubbing on clothing or are traumatized. Sometimes multiple treatments are needed. We will bill the diagnosis of the benign growths to your insurance company, but payment for the treatment is required at time of service.
For more information on skin growths, see Dr. Irwin's article on her website, SkinTour.com, on Moles, Lumps, and Bumps.
